Série s názvem 7. října 2023 vychází z otřesných událostí, které se v loňském roce tento den odehrály v Izraeli. Zoya Cherkassky svým výrazným grafickým vizuálním stylem zobrazuje teroristické útoky na hudebním festivalu Nova nebo zajetí rukojmích. Výběr kreseb byl vystaven v Židovském muzeu v New Yorku bezprostředně po svém vzniku jako první ze série uměleckých instalací představujících způsoby, jakými umělci reagují na konflikty a války ze současné i historické perspektivy. Zoya Cherkassky je mezinárodně uznávaná izraelská umělkyně a vystavovala v institucích, jako je např. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Künstlerhaus Bethanien v Berlíně, The Israel Museum v Jeruzalémě nebo The Jewish Museum v New Yorku.

Ve svém díle vyjadřuje Zoya Cherkassky svou jedinečnou schopnost pozorovat, analyzovat a rekonstruovat tradiční přístupy k  umění, stejně jako formulovat problémy, které s sebou nese dnešní umělecká tvorba. Spojuje jazyky vycházející z "vysoké" a "nízké" kultury, popové a počítačové estetiky. S ironií a sebekritikou v různých výrazových prostředcích uchopuje to podstatné a umí tomu dát současnou podobu. Jako imigrantka z bývalého Sovětského svazu do Izraele se Cherkassky zabývá otázkami identity a odcizení i různými konflikty, které vznikají při střetu kultur.

Cherkassky’s new body of work, 7 October 2023, takes as its point of departure the harrowing events of that day in Israel, using a graphic visual style to depict the terror attacks at the Nova Music Festival and the seizure of hostages. A selection of drawings was exhibited at the Jewish Museum in New York immediately after its creation as the the first in a series of art installations presenting ways in which artists respond to conflict and war from both contemporary and historical perspectives. The Soviet-born Israeli artist, who is widely recognized, has shown internationally at institutions including The Tel Aviv Museum of Art; the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and The Jewish Museum, New York.

In her work, Cherkassky expresses her unique capacity to observe, analyze and reconstruct old truths concerning art as well as to formulate the problematics which come with the making of art today. Her works bring together languages stemming from 'high' and 'low' cultures, pop and computer aesthetics. With irony and self-critique and in a variety of modes of expression, she grasps what is essential and knows to give it a contemporary form. As an immigrant from the ex-USSR to Israel, Cherkassky deals with issues of identity and alienation as well as the different conflicts that rise in the clash between the cultures.
